134 days to the Ride

Saw my first harbinger of spring today. Temps got into the low 40'sF today and I saw a guy out on a Rice Rocket. Still too many icy patches and snow for us "Harley" guys but I figure it's about 4 weeks until it comes out of storage and the final prep for the Ride begins. I've been surveying my gear and stacking it in a way that is representative of how it will fit on the bike. Still have a few things to get and then a few things to test. After that it is just counting down the days and practicing all the riding maneuvers that will get us safely out west and back home.
I heard from the Silent Service Motorcycle Club president and they held their monthly meeting and we are on the agenda for July. We should have a great time riding, and sharing NTINS, with them. I know many of them through the BBS and e-mail and it is going to be a real treat to meet them personally, especially Don Gentry. Don and I share a Detroit area heritage and a USS Cero SS 225 introduction to the submarine service. My lifelong dream trip to the west coast on a Harley, coupled with the opportunity to meet Don has been one of the key driving factors in all of this. I'm really getting the "itch" to saddle up and Ride.

  1. Talking to one of our resident Outlaw Motorcycle Gang President's, as one does in this job, it appears that to get my full license just requires me to get off my lazy backside and do the on road test....I have 4 months to get it...and get it I shall! I wish I hadn't sold my Kawasaki VN 800 now but doing so allowed Daniel to see the USA so that was worth it. 4 months to go before I hit the US! Blue *_*

  2. Does that allow you to ride in the U.S. or will you still have to get an International Driving permit?

  3. On my previous trips to the US, I have4 hired cars and never had a problem with the license when proving I am legal to hire/drive a car so I am assuming it is the same for a bike, however, I will check.

  5. Ya mean to tell me that Blue HAS a license??
Beautiful day here is Chasn today. Clear blue sky and 70f/20c. This is my kind of weather. There are bikes everywhere today. Tomorrow is suppose to be a carbon copy.
I'm getting the "chuck wagon" in shape and surveying equipment. I've got various size iron skillets and will get a couple of pots and a camp coffee pot.
I'll also bring a container of hydraulic oil and some diesel fuel to season the coffee and food with...just to bring back those long ago memories.

  6. I wont be able to hire one mate, the cost would be too much I reckon. I will be just as happy to be with Ralph in his truck and jump on the back of your bike every now and then.

Cheers....oh, and Ralph, yes I DO have a license!! lol
