So much for "harbingers of spring". We are now getting a winter storm that is predicted to give us up to 6 inches of new snow. All those guys who got to ride over the weekend will now have to put the bikes away. I've got to admit I was envious of those I saw out there.
On more of a planning note Ralph and I have been communicating what camping equipment we have and it looks like we're pretty well set for any nights we decide to sleep outside. Ralph seems to have just about anything we need for cooking and even has extra tents or is it a tent big enough to accomodate more than himself. If he gets Blue in there he better leave the food tied up in a tree or he'll think there's a bear in the tent when Blue gets one of his late night hunger pangs.
I spoke with our Air Force "rider" yesterday and he has dropped out of the trip. Roy, is having trouble with his legs and after taking a 400 mile round trip ride in Florida a few days ago he decided that he didn't want to take the chance of not being physically able to make it. I'm sorry he won't be going because he is a good friend, fellow RVN Vet and has plenty of stories of "derring do" to share with us. He's Air Force but he can give as well as take plenty of pings.

What I have is a 2 room tent large enough to sleep 4 comfortably. 6 can cram in there. I've got some sleeping bags and a couple/3 air mattress', pots, iron skillet fry pans, camp stove and burner with LP gas, 2 electric lanterns and I think the old coleman gas lantern is around somewhere.
ReplyDeleteWe need a couple of good coolers or better yet one of those 12v refers to keep our groceries in. Don't worry I'll keep Blue away from it until meal time. Which brings to mind.... Blue claims to be a pretty good cook. When Sharon and I were at his home in Perth he did a good job of it...never burnt the toast once.
I've got some coolers we can use. Mos advice I've gotten is to buy your food each day just before you stop riding. Of course, none of my advisers had the luxury of having a "support" vehicle. How you going to keep Blue away from the food? I heard after he got bit by that Tasmanian Devil that he took on some of the eating habits of that lovely creature.
ReplyDeleteHopefully, we'll have better than MRE's. We can buy each day but will still need somewhere to store stuff like eggs, butter, etc. Blue & I need something in the belly to start the day and then there is noon lunch, afternoon snack, supper, before bed snack, mid-rats.......
ReplyDeleteYou better form up a "mule team" to be haulin your vittles
