33 days to the Ride

It's Memorial Day and we are just a few short weeks away from our adventure. Pat and I just returned from the parade and ceremony in Milford, Michigan. This is a parade that does it right and honors those who have given their all in service to this country. I'm honored to be able to participate and it gives me time to sit back and reflect on those I knew who are now indelibly etched upon the Wall.

  1. One thing I miss a lot living here in the Charleston Area is the parades we use to have in town when I was raised in suburban Buffalo. The Memorial Day , 4th of July, labor Day, Veterans Day, man we use to do a parade for everything. The various volunteer fire Dept.,VFW, American Legion and even a local trucking company had a marching band of sorts. Here, the biggest crowds are at the mall shopping or at the beach.
Time for the trip is getting short. Blue and should be entering the Detroit Landing Pattern later afternoon on the 2nd...hopefully. I plan to give Blue some driving lessons on the way up. If I can keep him on the right side of the road and from breaking the sound barrier, we shouldn't have any problems....yeah right. :<)))))

  3. Watched a parade yesterday & today. Played in our Community Remembrance 97 degrees, now I know why the pipe bands don't play in the summer, I was sweating like a dog. I think the heat would melt the pipes wax..

Looks like I have made a mistake, I thought your 'Memorial Day' was what we called 'Remembrance Day' ( 11th of Nov )

1st of June here, ( 1st day of Winter too ) I fly out on the 18th....I better start getting my items checked off my list. The excitement is starting to build! *_*

Now to get rid of this cold I have...

  5. No problem, mate. many on this side don't know what ANZAC Day is.

Nov 11th is our Veteran's Day. Memorial Day May 31 is to remember our war dead. Actually came about to remember the dead from our Civil War back in 1861-1865.

  6. ANZAC Day is when the Aussies I work with get drunk at the Irish bar across the street from the paper, then go next door to the Turkish restaurant and harass the waiters. It's fun living in the great melting pot! :-))
