199 Days to the Ride

We are now under 200 days until we "single up the lines" and shove off on the ride. Seems hard to believe that in such a short time we will be firing up the Harley's, hearing that distinctive sound and heading north across the bridge and into the U.P. I'm not sure if they have Starbucks and bagel shops up there so I've packed some of the VIA coffees from Starbucks to keep McManus placated.
Looking out the window now, at the snow, and watching the flag on the local police station sticking straight out I'm glad we're not on the road now. The temps are in the low 20's and it will be another 4 months before it warms up enough to ride but each day that passes brings us closer. I've completed purchasing all my "road gear" with the purchase of a military sleeping bag system. If it lives up to it's advertising it will keep me warm and toasty down to the lowest temperatures but is flexible enough to be comfortable on the warmer nights.
I'm not sure how many of the participants are reading this but if you are, Have a Merry Christmas and a great New Year in 2010. See you on the ride.
Safe Home;

  1. Aye, Mate, the clock keeps ticking. Yesterday I bought a GPS. Man, what a slick toy this is. Sure would of liked to had one years ago when I was truckin.
    I'm going to make up a list of places to program it during the trip.
    Getting the old buckboard tuned up for the trip. So far brakes done and a new set of shocks. Next comes tires. These are PM's that need attention anyway so it's all coming together at a good time.
    A while back you mentioned about a bike hauling trailer. Is that still available and where is it? If you want me to tag it along I could pick it up on my way North or something.
    I've inventoried my camping gear. I've got a 2 room tent, sleeping bags, air mattress, lanterns, cook stove and some cast iron fry pans, etc., 48qt cooler. What I don't have any more is a camp coffee pot. If anyone has one holler before we buy one.
    My tuck has a lockable tool box in the back and I've got a fair assort. of tools.

    MERRY CHRISTMAS to y'all and we already know it's going to be a HAPPY NEW YEAR.
    Cheers!!!!

  2. I'm meeting the guy with the trailer, Jim the Jarhead, tomorrow. The trailer is in Florida and I think he'll be hauling it up here when they come up for the summer. Do I need to find out what size ball is on the hitch? I know he tows it behind a GMC Silverado (I think that's what it is).

  3. I had dinner with Jim and his wife Darlene last night; sure doesn't take long for people to get Floridaized. Jim told me he has a 2" ball on there and will bring the light plug in stuff (I'd get real technical but I was a quack and you were an A-ganger so you know exactly what I'm talking about) He will bring the trailer up here when they come so we can hook it up for the trip at my house.
